I have always said I live a bit of a life of kismet. Sure, I work hard, and not everything pans out but many times in my life I have found myself in the right place at the right time.
And such was the case last September.
I was teaching at the PUPs retreat in Memphis TN. This is a private guild retreat and they bring in 2-3 teachers and a vendor! It is quite the retreat! And there was a lot of communication back and forth to make sure it would work like clockwork. Debby was running the show and I was impressed. She got it done and did it well.
I flew into Memphis as the cost of airfare beat the cost of driving by quite a lot at the time. So Debby picked me up at the airport and we spent some time driving to the retreat location. And we chatted. And I found out she had been overseeing this retreat (and others) for the guild for a number of years.
I complimented her on her management skills and said it was pleasure to work with someone who had it all figured out and made my life easier. And then we talked about quilting, kids, lives etc and enjoyed our ride together.
And the retreat center was lovely, the food tasty, the location and accomodations clean, sweet smelling and comfortable, and the company fantastic. It was a wonderful experience.
And Debby and I drove back to the Memphis airport for my early flight on Sunday in the wee hours of the morning.
And at O’Dark-Thirty that Sunday morning we realized why our paths were meant to cross.
Debby was wanting to put the skill set she had built up arranging and running retreats into a business plan and I was thinking about finding someone to set up and run 1-2 retreats for me a year. I want to teach. I don’t want to run the show. So I am more then happy for someone else to do so and be paid for their talents. I just want to teach and enjoy the time with the quilters.
It was a bit of a surreal ride as both of us were spewing ideas at each other that obviously have been well thought out.
And the Mickey ‘n Memphis Quilt Retreat was born.
The Retreat is Thursday, March 19, 2020 to Sunday, March 22, 2020. Without even thinking about it, we decided on the weekend that covers National Quilting Day! It was meant to be…kismet!
The retreat will be held at St. Columba Episcopal Retreat Center in Memphis, TN. It is a beautiful retreat center tucked into the woods within the city limits. You can find out more about the location here.
I will be teaching hand piecing – the Carolina Favorite Block.
And the Tussie Mussie Quilt. This pattern will be releasing within the next 2 weeks and is included in your retreat fee.
I can hardly wait to get in the jeep and head to Memphis. Looking forward to sharing some laughs, meals, coffee! and brainstorming quilting ideas for your projects and mine in the evenings together. And sharing my skill set of teaching with everyone during the retreat. Yes, there is a schedule. Events need schedules. But with just 26 retreaters, even with a full house it will really be easy-going and informal time together.
Just what I and envisioned for a retreat and put together beautifully by Debby. I can’t say enough how happy I am that our paths crossed.
In the brochure you will find the contact info to reach Debby with any questions you may have or to secure your reservation. She is handling all of that so please know that if you email me for info it may put you behind in line. Please contact Debby directly at the email found on the PDF.
Enjoy your day,
